food that we eat. Are you aware, that all food was not
created equal? Did you know that there are twelve healthy
foods to eat that can protect you against various diseases?
Selecting and eating the proper food can help prolong your
lifespan along with the quality of your life.

Here are the twelve healthy foods to eat that possess superior
nutritional value and when consumed regularly gives you vibrancy,
liveliness and keeps you in a good state of health!

1. Beans are a plant high in protein. They contain almost no
fats and carbohydrates. They are also low in calories. If beans
give you flatulence, Soak them overnight and change the water
before cooking, this should help. If you have looking for a
good and cheap source of fiber, eating a daily portion of
beans will do the trick. Beans are very nutritious, and possess
a multitude of selections i.e kidney beans, navy beans, pinto
beans, black beans, lentils peas and chickpeas to name a few.

2. Oatmeal is a excellent source of whole grain nutrition.
Research shows that Oatmeal can lower blood cholesterol.
I prefer to make it myself with rolled oats but if you are in
a rush you can eat the instant Oatmeal. Oatmeal is a
nourishing grain packed with fiber that will help control
your hunger and keep your blood sugar levels steady.

3. Barley is an old favorite around the kitchen. This superb grain
is very versatile, it can be used as a breakfast cereal, it
can replace rice or other carbohydrates such as potatoes in
stews and soups. Barley is also pack with fiber which helps
control the absorption of cholesterol, fats, and carbohydrates.
Barley is cheap and easy to find. As a rule you should eat
barley at least twice a week.

4. Fruits are an essential part of a well-balanced diet. They
are filled with fiber, minerals and vitamins such as C and
A. These antioxidants help fight harmful substances in the
body, they reinforce the immune system, and reduce the risk
of cancer. Fruits contain carbohydrates such as fructose,
sucrose and glucose, a small amount of protein, and a
minimal amount of fat. Avocados are an exception, with
about 31 grams of fat per fruit. However this is not the bad
type of fat. This is the type of fat your body needs and this
fat is good for your health. Berries such as cherries, blueberries,
blackberries and grapes are full of antioxidants. However, to be
healthy you need to eat many various kinds of fruit.

5.  Garlic, onions, shallots, chives and leeks are members of
the allium family. Garlic is recognized for decreasing blood
cholesterol. Allium vegetables help protect the body against
many sicknesses. Allium foods are also known to lower blood
pressure and stop blood clots. Allium foods are easy to integrate
into your diet. I love garlic, onions and chives. Aside from their
health benefits, I find them very flavorful when combined with
various dishes. I use garlic, onions and chives daily. These
spices are cheap and sold in all supermarkets.

6. Salmon particularly Wild salmon is a fatty fish but it contains
omega-3 fatty acids that can help lower the risk of
sudden-death heart attacks. Salmon is rich in protein and
good for your health. Farmed salmon are usually bigger in
size and contain more fat than wild salmon. Wild salmon has
less dioxin contaminant than farmed salmon.

7. Flax seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids like salmon. They
also contain omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids. Flax seeds
provide lignans and fiber that are believed to reduce the
risks of many diseases. Flax seeds can help lower bad
cholesterol and protect against heart disease and diabetes.
Flax seed is a natural safeguard against heart disease.
Studies prove that when flax seed is added to the diet,
harmful ldl cholesterol (sometimes referred to as “bad
cholesterol”) drops, while hdl cholesterol( often
referred to as the “good cholesterol”) remains or increases.
Two-thirds of the fiber in flax is insoluble, consisting of
cellulose and lignans. This fiber cleans out the intestines,
reducing bowel transit time, therefore helping a person to
avoid constipation. The other one-third (soluble) plays an
important role in reducing serum cholesterol levels and
helps to regulate blood glucose levels. This is above all
good news for people who are diabetics.

Ground flax seeds are very versatile, add them to smoothies,
soups, sprinkled on yogurt, salads, and cereal. You can also
add them to  pancake and muffin mix…

8. Peppers come in a variety of colors. They are loaded
with beta-carotene and vitamin C. Peppers can be mild,
sweet, or  extremely hot. All the members of the  pepper
family  contain capsaicin (a colorlessness irritant found in
many capsicums that gives hot peppers their hotness).
Capsicum is a substance with anti-inflammatory properties
and pain relief. Peppers can also lower the risk of  heart
disease and even cancer. Use them in scrambled eggs,
omelets, salads, stir fry, salsa and many other dishes.

9. Nuts and seeds are a tasty top source of protein and
other nutrients. Nuts are high in beneficial fats. Macadamias,
cashews, almonds, pistachios, Brazil nuts, and walnuts are
an excellent source of protein. Eat them raw or roasted with
no additives. Because nuts and seeds have a high quantity
of fat they should be eaten in moderation.

10. Acai berry is a very nutritious fruit rich in
antioxidants. Acai berry is nearly 42% fiber. The acai berry
is a very unusual fruit,it contains a high level of omega
3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, and other good fats, carbs,
fiber, amino acids and other nutrients. The roughage is very
beneficial to the body because it help remove toxic waste
from the colon.

11.  “Green foods” are made from plants that are good
detoxifies and blood cleansers, as well as sources of
chlorophyll, minerals, enzymes, and other important
nutrients. Green foods are rich in antioxidants. Green foods
are derived from young cereal grasses such as wheat, barley,
rye, oats and alfalfa, as well as spirulina, chlorella,
kelp, dulse and other sea vegetables. Green foods help to
reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. Green foods are also
high in chlorophyll which is what helps your body filter
toxins out of your system. Chlorophyll is also responsible
for helping your body rebuild new red blood cells. It is
considered a fantastic source of vitamins and minerals. It’s
also high in magnesium which helps you absorb calcium into
your bones.

12. Yogurt, fat free yogurt, is excellent for your health.
Yogurt is made by the natural bacterial fermentation of
milk. It has calcium, protein and Vitamin D. Yogurt
provides calcium that is helpful in the building of strong
bones and healthy teeth. Live yogurt is best because it
contains friendly bacteria that  keeps the digestive system
healthy.

The best approach to a healthy body is to be conscious of
the food we eat. Add these twelve healthy foods to eat
to your diet. They will help you prevent diseases and
sicknesses and allow you to live a much happier and healthier

Skin Protection

Last week I watched on Television a disturbing documentary about
the effects of sunscreen on laboratory rats, humans and coral.

Margaret Schlumpf of the University of Zurich Switzerland, has
been doing research for a while about the effects of sunscreen on
lab rats. What she discovered was so alarming that she decided to
extend her research to humans.

Here are some of her findings:

She found that many widely used sunscreens products contained
chemicals that mimic estrogen, and triggered genital abnormalities
in the lab rats. A common chemical called 4-MBC, when mixed with
olive oil and applied to the skin of the rats, triggered uterine growth
to twice their normal size well before puberty. In male rats their
genitals were much smaller than the rats that had not been exposed
to the 4-MBC chemical.

Endometriosis which is caused by exposure to excessive estrogen,
is the major cause of sterility in women in the USA. Margaret
Schlumpf believes that the use of sunscreen might be the primary
cause of endometriosis in American women.

Margaret Schlumpf also discovered estrogen in the breast milk of
mothers that use sunscreen in highly concentrated amounts. How
their children will be affected in the future by ingesting this estrogen
is not yet known.

Margaret Schlumpf also said that exposure to high concentrations
of estrogen could increase drastically because of the large quantity
of sunscreen currently used by children, and the chemicals may also
affect their normal sexual development.

Women that are exposed to excessive amounts of estrogen, suffer
from increased fibrocystic breast diseases, painful breasts
swelling and suppression of thyroid hormone production which may
in turn cause muscle and joints pain along with fatigue. The excessive
amounts of estrogen can also increase the possibility of breast cancer,
endometriosis and uterine cancer.

Some studies warn against the chemical in sunscreen because large
amount of sunscreen applied to the skin can pass through the skin
and go directly into the bloodstream. The chemical Oxypenzone has
also been found in the urine of sunscreen users.

These excessive uses of sunscreen could play a factor in the
increase in breast, uterine, colon and prostate cancer. This has
been observed among populations where sunscreen is
heavily promoted as a form of protection against skin cancer.

Adding to the problem is the devastating consequences on the
marine ecosystem. Sunscreen has been killing coral by the
thousands. Sunscreen asphyxiates the coral by covering it with
a coating of oil that prevent the coral from breathing.

If you are at all concerned by the results of this study, you
don’t have to stop using sunscreen protection entirely, instead
choose sunscreen products that are more natural like the ones
sold in health food stores.
