Two friends go out for a walk in a park.
One detects the garbage left by the visitors,
and one detects the sweetness of the breeze on his face.
If your goal was to loose 10 pounds this month and
you lose 6 pounds, will you jump for joy and stay
motivated to reach your goal or will you be
discouraged and find an excuse not to continue your diet?
Life presents you with a great number of choices.
You may choose to view life with pessimism and live
a despairing life or you may decide to follow the optimistic
route and live a life full of surprises
and enjoyment.
So why should you opt for an optimist’s view of life?
Well, optimism has been linked to a positive mood and
attitude, to popularity,to success in all areas of life
and to good health and even a longer and happier life.
On the other hand, pessimism has been linked to an
increase in the number of discouraged teenagers and
depressed adults. Pessimists tend to believe bad events
only happen to them. If they are not blaming themselves
for their misfortune then they believe the world is out to
get them. They also believe if something bad happens to them
once, it will likely happen again and again.
Pessimists are more likely to quit trying when
any form of difficulty arises.
How do optimists see the world?
Optimistic people always expect the best even when
life knocks them down. They tend to believe defeat is just a
temporary setback. They tend to see a negative
experience as an opportunity to learn and grow. They
expect things to get better fast. They do not see
themselves as failures. They perceive bad situations
as a challenge and they try harder. They just don’t give up
easily.
Optimists are proactive and less dependent on others
for their well-being. They are not interested in
controlling or manipulating people. They usually
attract people to them. Their optimistic view of the
world can influence those aroung them. They don’t
give up easily. They are also healthier and they
live longer than people who are less optimistic.
Medical research has proven that fun and games, and a
positive attitude can cause a significant increase in
the body’s ability to fight disease. Optimists tend to
enjoy a healthier lifestyle and live longer than those who
harbor negative thoughts.
We all have a choice. You choose weather to be a pessimist
or an optimist. It all depends on weather youre the type of
person that sees the glass half full or half empty.
Are you ready to choose a positive attitude today?
Think positive thoughts, look forward to success in all
your undertakings, inspire others to become the best
they can be, and live a longer and more fulfilling life.
