Understanding The Mind Part 2

Inner Mind

What we observe is not consistently what we receive. There are
particular things in this world in which their physical form is
far distinctive from their genuine characteristics. Applying only
our 5 physical senses, we could easily consent to what we see,
hear, smell, taste, and feel, even if it negates the truth.
However, the mind, assists us to recognize unmistakably what the
substance truly is; in this way, helping us also in making smart
decisions.

Take, for example, this situation: you overheard an individual
express verbally that it will rain this afternoon. Short of
reasoning and evaluating the particulars, you are proceeding to
accept it without evidence. You might even change your plans
about going out that afternoon in order to avert the
inconvenience it will carry. In other words, lacking any
foundation other than the point of view of an individual you
don’t even know, you acquiesce to the belief as accurate. And so,
you make modifications.

Using the mind, we don’t constantly have to swear by what we
hear, especially when it contradicted the observations,
conclusions and judgments we made with it, or they contradict a
universal truth. In the circumstance above, the mind can step in
various ways, noticing if the clouds are darker and lower than
normal, checking the weather forecast on the TV or radio for
probable rain, rather than agreeing to the idea that it is going
to rain. For example, having observed the sky, you found out that
the sky is blue and there are only a few white clouds in the sky.
Or, having checked the weather forecast, you understood that
there will be no rain during the day. Therefore, you may now
conclude that it will not rain, and as a result, you don’t have
to abandon any plans you have.

Thus, what our five senses cannot execute well, the mind does.

Amusing how we have repeatedly been told, more than once in our
life, to place our mind in what we were doing, whether it would
be learning, performing, baking, gardening, reading or just
playing. What may perhaps be the reasoning behind that? Well, our
parents, teachers, and friends to name a few, are evidently
concerned in our well being that they want us to focus and work
hard in whatsoever it is that we are carrying out. In doing so,
we can effortlessly reach our objectives and achieve success.

There is a big difference in doing a task with the body and doing
a task with the mind. In the previous, one uses his hands and
other parts of his body in executing a particular job which
sooner or later will get fatigued and must be put to rest. Since
the human body is subject to exhaustion and is limited in terms
of functionality, abuse of it might cause tiredness and other
physical impairments. Thus, it may affect the performance and
ending of a task. On the other hand, in doing a job, primarily
with the mind, one does not entrust all the labor to the body. He
thinks of ways on how to reduce the possible physical
undertakings needed, to reduce the amount of time needed, and to
get the most out of the task being performed. In this way, the
job is most likely to be done in just a short period, with little
exertion but with the best outcome.
