Meditation is a powerful tool you can use to reinforce a positive state-of-mind for yourself and your life. When you meditate you can free your mind from persistent thoughts and worries which prevent you from being positive, as well as relax and calm your body. Some benefits of meditation: Meditation will help clear your mind of excess chatter and will also help you attain inner peace. When you are peaceful and focus, you become positive not to mention in harmony with yourself and your environment.
You don’t have the be religious to enjoy the benefits of meditation in your own life. Anyone can meditate and enjoy the benefits of meditation. In truth, meditation is indeed non-denominational. What meditation does do is enhance your own spirituality to a higher level as you do it on a regular basis. There are many, many mediation techniques out there for you to choose from because there is no right or wrong way to meditate. But, it is recommended across the board, in order to receive the positive benefits of meditation, that you should meditate at least once a day, ideally twice.
If you are a beginner and new to the practice of meditating, I suggest that you start with 10-minute sessions and slowly build up as you get better. There are two basic types of meditation. One is focusing on a certain activity like breathing and the other is to concentrate on an image or sound. The whole idea behind meditation, regardless of type of meditation, is to merge the self with the inner self and higher consciousness which leads eventually to some form of enlightenment. Here are some simple meditation tips to remember if you want to have a positive meditation experience and receive the full benefits of meditation:
1. It is important to meditate daily.
2. Keep a positive attitude even when you are not meditating.
3. Don’t meditate when you are tired.
4. Pick a time and place that is quiet to meditate where you will not be disturbed.
5. Sit in a comfortable position with your spine erect. You can sit on the floor, on a chair, or on a cushion.
6. Relax your body.
7. Take a few deep breaths prior to starting.
8. To help increase relaxation, concentrate on pleasant thoughts or a mental image that makes you feel calm.
9. Before you start, take a few minutes to think of the benefits of meditation. Think about how it strengthens your focus, calms your mind and body, eases stress and tension, etc.
10. Start your meditation session with calm, but focus so you don’t get distracted by outside influences. You will be able to ignore them fully with practice.
11. Keep calm both mentally and physically. Do not tense your body up. Relax.
When you meditate with constancy and diligence, you will enjoy the full benefits of meditation. You will develop a positive state of being as well as self-discipline. Meditation fosters both.
