The Donkey

by Lissa

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a  well. The animal cried piteously for hours as  the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to
be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him.
They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.

At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down
the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each
shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing
something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of
the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon,
everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge
of the well and happily trotted off!

MORAL :
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt.
The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off
and take a step up.
Each of our troubles is a steppingstone.
We can get out of the deepest wells just by not
stopping, never giving up!
Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred – Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries – Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from God.

Since I was a child I love stories that had a moral to it, because I found that they teach us so much without preaching. Being French speaking, my favorites where “Les Fables de La Fontaine”. I learned so much wisdom from them. This is the reason I posted this story on my blog. Thank you so much Jen for sharing with me what you got out of this story.

That is one inspiring and touching story! Thanks Lissa for sharing this story with us! Yes, I definitely agree with you, that no matter what we face in life, and how negative and dark our situations may seem, we need to not focus on the darkness but to cling onto the light, because I always believe that there is that source of guiding light. It’s never an easy task, but I guess that’s why these struggles and hurts build us up and mold our characters.

when I taking a psychology course last term, my prof compared these diffcult tasks and hard times to climbing a mountain, she reminded us that we should never look back and always look forward until we’ve reached the top.

And something one of my closest friend said to me which I will always remember was that a lot of the times, we ask God to mold us and shape us into the person that He created us to be, but we never stop and realize what we’re really asking – because the molding process does bring hurt and pain. And then, when we face struggles, we blame God and others on our failures. Isn’t it so true?

Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with us, it really is such an inspiration and I will do my best to not worry and just live life=)
